Deaths of 3 Iloilo residents linked to oil spill

MANILA — Residents of a coastal village in Estancia, Iloilo held a protest at the provincial capitol on Tuesday following the death of another resident allegedly due to the oil spill from a dislodged power barge. Reynaldo dela Cruz, resident of Barangay Botongon, died last January 28 due to cardiopulmonary arrest. Dela Cruz’s death is being linked to leaked bunker oil from a power barge which got dislodged at the height of typhoon Yolanda’s onslaught in November last year. Pennsylvania: Crews Clean Up After Oil Spill In Delaware River

MARCUS HOOK, Pa., (CBS) – Chopper 3 was over the scene as crews cleaned up after a crude oil spill in the Delaware River. The incident was reported Monday afternoon near Monroe Energy LLC in Marcus Hook, Delaware County. The U.S. Coast Guard says about 1,000 gallons of crude oil spilled into the river, about one mile south of the Commodore Barry Bridge. http://philadelphia.cbslocal.com/2014/01/27/coast-guard-responding-to-oil-spill-in-delaware-river/

Seoul, South Korea: Fisheries minister fired for slip of tongue over Yeosu oil spill

SEOUL, Feb. 6 (Yonhap) — President Park Geun-hye on Thursday fired the head of the Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries, Yoon Jin-sook, for making a series of inappropriate remarks over a recent oil spill and for a late response to the incident. On Jan. 31, a speeding Singapore-registered tanker collided into pipelines operated by GS Caltex, the country’s second-largest refiner, causing an oil spill into waters off the coast of Yeosu, 455 kilometers south of Seoul. New York: Hundreds of gallons of oil spill into Long Island Sound

LONG ISLAND  (PIX11) –  Crews are working in the Long Island Sound to permanently repair a power line that was cut back on Jan. 6 and started leaking hundreds of gallons of oil. The emergency containment had gone largely unnoticed for nearly a month despite a large staging area in Tappen Beach. As PIX11′s chopper flew overhead Tuesday, boats were at then scene where divers have been working around the clock in bitterly cold waters even when air temperatures have been well below freezing. Winona & Red Wing, Minnesota: 12,000 gallons of crude oil spilled on Monday

No significant cleanup work is planned after a valve or cap mishap on a Canadian Pacific rail car spilled 12,000 gallons of crude oil between Winona and Red Wing. According to officials at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the incident was reported at 11:41 a.m. Monday, after crews discovered the leak. The spill involved less than half the contents of a typical tanker car, which holds about 26,000 gallons of liquid. Oklahoma City: Hazmat crews working to clear up an oil spill in SW OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY -Crews continue cleaning up an oil spill at SW 149th St. and Portland Ave. in Oklahoma City. Fire fighters first received reports of the oil on the roadway around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday evening. Fee Proposal Prompts Debate Over BP Oil Spill Money

As Texas decides how it will spend millions of dollars from a multi-state agreement with BP following the Deepwater Horizon spill, the Texas General Land Office (GLO) is proposing a fee on projects that restore damaged coastal areas. Some of the non-profit environmental and wildlife groups involved in the projects are not happy.
